08.30 Battle Starts
German thoughts:
-Pe-2´s had to abort a mission against Div artillery due to heavy flak. -Continious radio transmission sent by Ruskies recieved on open channel: "Steel, steel, steel..." -Getting more air support than I was hoping for (2x Ju87 AT and 1x Hs129 AT) -No reports yet. -Enemy´s main forces (2x Tanks Corps) seem to be in the north against Leibstandarte.
German HQ Reports

German thoughts
-Regimental commanders´ reports were a tad confusing at first as they lacked vital information like from whom the report was coming from, when was it made and even troop positions for both sides. -3SS seemed to recieve rather heavy casualties from Ruskie´s pre-planned rocket strikes. Ouch!
German HQ Reports
To 2nd SS
-Indicate yourself on your reports -Indicate the time on your reports -3.SS PzGrenReg recieved considerable casualties. Get ready to support the northern part of the front more than was planned. -4.SS PzGrenReg reports lots of mechanized noise east of their positions. Luftwaffe´s tankbusters will soften them up.

prokho_geradvance.JPG (11972 bytes)4th SS advances. Note that the green tank leading the advance is a T34. The DR division had several platoons of captured T34 tanks in this battle, as the division overran a tank factory earlier in the summer and was able to capture large numbers of tanks intact.

In this game they were vulnerable to both Soviet and German air strikes, but fortunately for the Germans all their aerial attacks were directed away from these platoons. These platoons were destroyed later in the battle.

09.30
German thoughts:
-4th doing fine in south. -Trying to keep the Regimental commanders knowledgeable on what´s going on in the Division and its vicinity. -Getting even more air support. Exellent! -Unfortunately air strikes postponed to around noon due to bad weather. Aargh, we´ll all be dead by then. Luckily, I had time to change the targets of the air attacks to more appropriate ones because of this. Phew! -Tumba had some snacks with him and I certainly wanted some. Hence the demand for supplies. -Leibstandarte kicking ass in the north!
German HQ Reports

prokho_gerCIC.JPG (12236 bytes)The German Divisional Headquarters was provided with the latest Enigma computers which allowed Janne to keep meticulous records of all communications. Unfortunately the provisions were not to the same standards as the Russian HQ.

10.00
German thoughts:
-Ruskies seem to concentrate on the battered 301 and nothing much is happening in the south. And as nothing much is happening in the very north of sector, except for the seemingly enormous tank formation, Stugs are going to be moved more to south to do some damage. I automatically envisioned them taking the western side of the woods... -Actually after I saw the aerial recon pictures from Luftwaffe there seems to be quite a lot of activity in the south advancing towards our troops... -Too many enemies make us unable to reach our objectives. Have informed Army commander that more troops are needed, not that I believe that any will be sent.
German HQ Reports
Hausser: -Enemy troops in our sector larger than anticipated (reinforced tank Brigade & 2-3 Brigade of infantry detected so far). -Objectives impossible to reach without additional troops.

To 4th SS
-Luftwaffe´s support late due to rain. Arriving ~12.00 -Aereal reconnaissance confirms large enemy concentrations in your sector -Very large enemy tank concentration in the 301-Belenkhino -line. 2SS committing reserves and its support to you is presumed to be light -Name & time to reports

10.30
German thoughts:
-What!? 3rd lost a Stug to RECON? -4th seems to be doing fine in the south. Still anticipating enemy main forces to attack in the ominously quiet northern sector, that is except the big tank concentration that seems threatening... -Got some snacks from Tumba, now asking for some more (ie. read "vodka & sauerkraut" as "crisps"). -Damn, only now realized that some aerial reconnaissance behind enemy lines would be good. Right after last order had gone to Luftwaffe. Damn I´m stupid! -Russian counterattack stopping Leibstandarte and there is a risk of a flanking attack from the north. Definately don´t want to attack with my thin line in the north as they might be cut off.
German HQ Reports
To 2nd SS

11.00
German thoughts:
-Ugh! A third of PzIVs destroyed in one rocket strike. This is certainly NOT going well... -Whatever happened to the great, threatening enemy tank formation? It seems that our PAKs are quite effective and situation has stabilized! Unfortunately SS Eval unit has ran to the hills. -It seems that Belenkhino is going to be a tough nut to crack. -What on earth does "Sov motorcycles heavy casualties" mean? Have they suffered or inflicted these casualties? Hello? -Had Luftwaffe drop propaganda leaflets that granted any Russians safe surrender. -Army commander paid a visit to my HQ (ie one of the Gamemasters dropped by) just as the situation doesn´t look that grim "Yes Sir! My earlier reports were a bit on the pessimistic side, Sir! Thanks for the schnaps, Sir!" As he wanted to tour the front, directed him to 3rd Regiment; that should boost up the morale...
German HQ Reports
Luftwaffe -The strike against inf. succeeded magnificently. Put on some new bombs and let´s have more of the same! -The strike against tanks was much less effective -Aerial reconnaisance behind enemy lines is needed
To 2nd SS

11.30
German thoughts:
-Enter the phantom-T34s in the northern sector. Mentioned here for the first time and then they just dissapear. Were they destroyed? Are these finally the front elements of the full assault in north or is the full assault already in full progress in south? -Better call in the 2nd line troops as forming them calls up time. Got to have some kind of reserves. But where to put them? Do I need them in north or south? Better get them south to Kalinin as they can quite easily be moved to at least center sector. -As casualties seem to be mounting up don´t want to try to reach too far. Belenkhino is ours and Ivanovka seems to be well guarded. Let´s wait awhile and see how the situation develops before attacking again. Especially want to avoid any exposed flanks. -Remembered to inform Regimental commanders about those propaganda leaflets and what to do with the surrending scum. Not that I REALLY believed that anyone would´ve surrendered. -Second air strike against Division artillery shot down. -Further down in south it seems that neighbouring Division´s bridgehead has been stopped by enemy reserves.

To 3rd SS
-Shoot all the Russians that try to cross the lines, even though they might be waving whatever kind of leaflets -Use Stugs to destroy the T-34s & SU-76s if need be (if PAKs and artillery isn´t enough) -What do you mean "flanking" from the east? I gather that the front is still in the east... -Medals can be recomended for the artillerymen that distinquished themselves
To 4th SS
-Shoot all the Russians that try to cross the lines, even though they might be waving whatever kind of leaflets -Rain is hampering the activity of Luftwaffe; use artillery for the tanks -Hold the positions, seek the best defence positions in Belenkhino and stop advancing towards Ivanovka for the time beeing. -Medals can be recommended for the troops that have distinquished themselves taking Belenkhino! -Note! 12.00
German thoughts:
-North seems to be quieting down, but don´t want to attack with the remaining few troops until south is cleared as Ruskie´s main forces seem to be in southern sector. Better direct the full force of 2nd Regiment to south. -Flanking Division´s attack has seemed to have ground to halt. Definately no use of reaching too far and exposing our flanks. -4th Regiment: Stop attacking in south, dig in and keep the positions!
German HQ Reports
Hausser -Enemy advance in our sector has been halted with heavy losses -We have captured Belenkhino with very heavy losses (666. Pnr Btn). Ruskie is counterattacking heavily in Belenkhino-Ivanovka area, but I estimate it to grind to a halt in ~1-2 hours.
To 2nd SS
-Enemy´s attack in the north seemed to have grinded to a halt. Support 4th´s defense with panzers, but don´t open your east/north flank to the Ruskie -Remember to use artillery! -Avoid tight concentrations in case of Ruskies air forces are used
To 3rd SS
-Good! Hold the positions & organize the troops for the best possible defence -Avoid tight concentrations in case of Ruskies air forces are used -Remember the northern part of the sector -Remember to use artillery!
To 4th SS
-Where is III/4? 701? -Where are the reserves? 702? -Don´t reach too far. However, if Ivanovka looks like it´ll fall without bigger sacrifices then go ahead -Remember to use artillery! -Avoid tight concentrations in case of Ruskies air forces are used

Asking for permission to support the attack to Belenkhino. Taking Vinogradovka without tank support is waste of time. HQ´s morale is waning, but no one is firing at it at the moment, though.
From 4th SS
Losing hill 701 Keeping B. Devastating losses.... Holding the lines!

German thoughts:
-Ha-haa! Good ol´ 2nd regiment coming to rescue. Give them a good whupping! -Most of the Stugs destroyed! How? And why did Tumba move them south the eastern route? -Ooops. Seems that the Ruskies have a breakthrough forming in south. Looks like the 2nd line reinforcements will arrive in the precisely right spot. -Ruskies have captured a strategic hill in the Leibstandarte´s positions, although furter to the north we´ve gained a breakthrough and meeting no resistance at all.
German HQ Reports
To 2nd SS
-Exellent! -Use artillery! 701 must be recaptured -Also remember to support 3rd in the north as they have managed to get their Stugs killed. The enemy threatens to break through the defences of 183rd Division near hill #501.
From 4th MRB
"A hell of a lot of artillery needed south of Belenkhino, to west of the railroad!"
From 4th GTB
"Hill #703 taken. Hill 702# taken. Hill #701 taken. 50% losses in brigade. Enemy pioneer battalion destroyed. Scattered (100 men) troop of enemy routing westwards."
From 25th GTB From 26th GTB From 183rd Div
"Remaining 10 tanks and 5 trucks disappeared behind hill #301. (Storozhevoe). Losses of the northmost regiment still only the cossack platoon. No visual contact to enemy, no enemy to be seen. I recommend medal of Soviet Hero for the cossack platoon, which sacrificed its life in fight against the facist aggression."

[276th Reg] "50 enemy tanks breaking through Belenkhino- #501 line."

13.00 Battle Ends
German thoughts:
-Everything seems to be under control. It seems that Ruskie´s artillery and rockets have caused most of our casualties. -The third air attack against Division artillery is promtly shot down in flames. -Now, what´s this radio transmission we´ve heard in the open channel. 3SS is definately not in THAT bad a shape. Must be a deception. I´ll get to the front anyway and put some more spunk to the battle. I´ll visit the 3rd first to find out the truth behind the radio transmission and then head south towards 2nd and 4th.
