J. Lönnqvist - New Kingdom EgyptianThis was the third appearance in the DBMättö Scene of Janne's magnificently painted Armies of the Pharaoh, this time he was the only Book 1 player. "I decided to vary the Egyptian list I had previously used in the previous Mättös. As Tumba´s Indians had REALLY annoyed me in the previous Mättö´s I added some more heavy infantry to take care of those troublesome Bw(S)´s. Unfortunately Fortunes of War only deigned to show their light on me by mooning me as Tumba was my first opponent and my army fared, erm, not so well against him, and even these died in scores against his thrice cursed bowmen. I envisioned that most of the fighting should be done by two commands (Amun & Ptah) and tried to make them as strong as possible dumping the rabble (filler Ax & Wb that was included to punch a tiny gap into possible enemy heavy infantry) to the last command (Re) and used when deemed necessary. In the last two games I used it as flanking command against my usual doctrine. The Canaanites are used more or less only as fillers in Amun to boost up the demoralization points and depending on the terrain to try to hold up uneven terrain on command´s flanks. All in all I was rather surprised that I managed to hold my own against Teutons (deadlock was defiantely helped by the luckily placed defensive tarrain, otherwise I would´ve been trampled), almost kick Carthagean butt (helped by Mikkonen´s abysmally poor dicing; even worse than my own) and avoiding defeat and almost winning against Ville´s Romans. So except against Tumba´s Indians the army functioned quite well, except that it didn´t give me that many points as it lacked the final punch for victories. Composing Egyptian army is rather frustrating as one has quite many compulsory troops, leaving one little room to vary the composition. Also most of the troops being regular and more expensive doesn´t help. Perhaps the next time I´ll experiment with an army filled with as many chariots as I can manage and boosted up with all the inexpensive rabble that can be mustered. The army is painted quite monotoniously as it is a regular army. I used darker skin tones and off-white cottonish clothes with black/white cowskin shields. The only exceptions to this are the barding on chariot horses that are done with more different colors and some of the non-egyptian troops. As this was the first DBM army that I did I had some problems with the bases and they´re something that I should redo as some of them really look embarassingly bad."
